May 2 Leonardo dies at Clos Lucé in France at age 67. He is buried in the Chapel of Saint-Hubert at Château d’Amboise.

Invited by King Francis I of France to serve as “Premier Painter and Engineer.” Moves to Château du Clos Lucé in Amboise.

Moves to Rome under the patronage of Giuliano de’ Medici.

Returns to Milan under French rule to work for Charles II d’Amboise and later King Louis XII.

Begins work on the "Mona Lisa" (or La Gioconda).

Returns to Florence.

Leaves Milan for Venice.

Completes "The Last Supper"

Begins work on "The Last Supper" for Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan.

Starts painting the Virgin of the Rocks.

Moves to Milan to work for Ludovico Sforza as a painter, engineer, and architect.

Receives a commission for Adoration of the Magi, but leaves it unfinished when he moves to Milan.

Creates his first known work, Landscape Drawing, a detailed pen-and-ink depiction of the Arno Valley.

Leonardo is accepted into the Painter’s Guild of Florence but continues working in Verrocchio’s workshop for several more years.

At age 14, Leonardo becomes a garzone (studio boy) in the workshop of Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence.
